This year I’m pleased to be back writing for the Canadian MoneySaver Magazine! The January issue was full, but I managed to squeak into the February Issue. If you are a CMS reader, be sure to check out my two part series on high-yield stocks starting this February:

I was inspired to write this two-part series, as I noticed readers were buying high-yield stocks, without being fully aware of the risks involved. I wanted to present the other side of the coin, and show why cheap stocks are seldom on sale, and the dangers associated with buying a high-yield stock. I’ll be posting the first part here on the Dividend Ninja in early February.

Take Control of Your Financial Future Seminar (Vancouver)

I’m delighted to announce I will be speaking at the Canadian MoneySaver Seminar in April. This is a big step for me to move beyond the blog!

Take Control of Your Financial Future will be held in Vancouver, April 20th, 2013, at the University of British Columbia. The venue is the main auditorium in the Student Union Building. Since I live close by, I’ve decided to take the first spot at 8:30am. Fortunately there are a few Starbucks on campus, so I should be able to get enough caffeine before presenting. LOL

I know some readers of the Dividend Ninja will be there, and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person!  I’m also looking forward to meeting managing editor Peter Hodson, CMS staff I’ve corresponded with, and the other superb writers at Canadian MoneySaver magazine. I’ve attended a few blogging conferences as well as numerous business events over the years, and I’m excited to take the next step.

I’m also in some excellent company with other Canadian MoneySaver writers: Becky Wong, Eileen Reppenhagen, Brian Tang, Tim McElvaine, and Donald Dony.

My presentation is titled:

“Sell Your Mutual Funds, Buy Index Funds and Dividend Stocks, and Start Making Money Now!”

My topic is a back to basics approach for mutual fund investors who are ready to make the switch to index funds and ETFs, as well as dividend stocks. I’ll be explaining why mutual funds don’t perform well for the majority of investors. I’ll also show how investors can do much better with an index and dividend approach.

• The importance of asset allocation, and why it matters.
• Why you shouldn’t buy mutual funds.
